About the Golden Gate Chapter

The Lambda Alpha International (LAI) Golden Gate Chapter is an honorary society of approximately 350 San Francisco Bay Area land economics professionals. Disciplines include investment, development, planning, finance, construction, legal, engineering and design. The chapter is part of the LAI organization with 30 chapters and 2,000+ members internationally.

LAI is honorary; membership is by invitation only. Being a member means you are considered by your peers to be an influential expert in your profession. We believe the chapter culture is very collegial and the activities provide opportunities to make valuable professional connections and lifelong personal friends. In our opinion, there is no other Bay Area real estate organization quite like it.

The LAI Golden Gate Chapter offers its members the following benefits:

Local Networking and Land Use Education: We provide frequent opportunities for a) networking with a select group of accomplished Bay Area land use professionals, and b) learning about local land use issues/projects such as:

  • Annual Gala: The Gala is our signature cocktails and dinner event to which all members are invited. Close to 200 members attend, and the program includes the induction of new initiates, a (generally humorous) presentation of the year’s Bay Area real estate events, and the award of the Member of the Year. The 2023 Gala is scheduled for November 30, 2023.

  • Monthly Luncheon Programs: Monthly luncheon presentations provide information on current real estate trends and new development projects. The speakers are both private and public primary stakeholders. Recent topics included Bay Area economic outlook, revitalizing downtown San Francisco, the 5M development and the UC Berkeley campus master plan.

  • Local Tours: Tours provide early and behind-the-scenes looks at Bay Area real estate projects. Recent tours included Building 12 at Pier 70, the Presidio Tunnel Tops park, the Central Subway extension and the Oakland Convention Center renovation.

International Access: The LAI organization includes a network of chapters in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Members may attend other chapter meetings and the Annual Land Economics Weekend (LEW) which showcases cities around the world. (The 2023 LEW is in Barcelona.) LAI also has a social media presence with a website, Facebook page, YouTube channel and a library of presentations, programs and Key Notes, which is an online journal of articles written by members world-wide.
